Beginner Soap Making Workshop
3 dates to choose from: Nov 2, Nov 9, Nov 23 from 1-4 pm
at Swallowtail Farmstead
Learn to make soap just in time for holiday gift giving!
In an informal small-group hands on setting, learn to make traditional bar soap using the cold process method. We only have a small indoor teaching space, so our soap classes are sized for 4-6 participants. Bring a few friends and have a personalized class!
Cold process soap makes a beautiful hard and long-lasting bar soap, which is skin safe and very versatile. In this workshop we will go through all the steps in all-natural traditional soap making, from preparing your workspace, to measuring for recipes, infusing oils, handling lye safely, to pouring, cutting and curing soap. We will talk about how to infuse botanicals in oil or tea for soap making, using natural clays for colour, and adding pure essential oils for scent. We will demonstrate some interesting techniques like layering, marbling and adding botanicals.
During this workshop each participant will make their own customized 1 lb batch of soap to take home. We will have a wide selection of clays, pure essential oils, and dried herbs/flowers from our gardens for you to choose from!
Soap needs 4 weeks to cure, so your soap will be ready for Christmas!
What to bring: Participants will be asked to bring a small shoebox sized container or 1 lb soap mold, an apron, rubber gloves, and eye protection (safety glasses). All other supplies, ingredients, recipes and tools will be provided.
Youth aged 12+ are welcome to attend with an adult.
More details and directions to our farm will be provided to participants upon registration. Workshop is approximately 2.5-3 hours long.
We will offer this soap making workshop again. If you wish to be put on our waiting list for a future date please contact us at: hello(at)swallowtailfarmstead.ca
