Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis)
About:
This species is native to Eastern North America. Beautiful yellow flowers that bloom at night! So gorgeous to see the vibrant yellow flowers glowing in the dusk. The flowers attract moths for pollination, so night blooming gives the plants an advantage.
Sun/Soil
Grows best in light sandy soil. Good candidate for xeriscaping as it can tolerate dry soil conditions. If soil is rich then less flowers will form on the plant.
Culinary Uses
The sweet beautiful flowers are a nice addition to salads. The young seed pods can be steamed for eating. The seeds can be added to baking in place of poppy seeds.
Medicinal Uses
Traditionally evening primrose was used for arthritis, skin disorders, allergies, asthma, premenstrual syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and depression.
Organically grown, with certified organic seeds and organic soil. Comes in a compostable pot.
