Herbs - Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa)
About:
A popular showy perennial in the mint family with lavender-coloured blooms. Wild bergamot attracts bees and other pollinators, and will readily spread through the garden. Easy to grow. Traditionally used for sore throats, headaches, colds and to reduce fevers.
Sun/Soil
Grows best in well-drained soil, in full sun. A perennial native to North America that tends to grow and spread easily.
Culinary Uses
Flower petals and leaves can be eaten in leafy salads or fruit salads, or made into tea. Petals make a lovely syrup or jelly.
Medicinal Uses
Delicious tea, not quite as sweet as peppermint and more spicy. Traditionally used to calm the stomach and aid digestion, and for colds, fevers, sore throats. Also a gentle nervine used to calm anxiety and stress, and is wonderful for childen. Can be made into salves, oxymels (with honey), syrups, used fresh or dried as tea.
Comes in a compostable pot, hardened off and ready to plant. Grown with organic seed and organic soil.
