Pollinator Plant
Elecampane is a tall rigid plant with profusion of yellow small "sunflower" like flowers that bloom from mid-summer to early fall. It grows well in most soil types, and loves full sun. It is cold tolerant and can be planted early in spring. Seeds can be started indoors ahead of time, or direct seeded.
Elecampane root is used for both culinary and medicinal purposes, traditionally used to boost the immune system and as an anti-inflammatory. If you plan to harvest the root for medicinal uses, then apply compost on the plants in the spring.
Growth habit:
Elecampane will actively self-seed.
Organically grown here at Swallowtail Farmstead.
