ANNUAL FIRE CIDER MAKING DAY!!

Cost: Sliding scale pricing

at Swallowtail Farmstead

Sat Oct 4, 10 am-12 noon

with Karin Kliewer

Prepare for the cold & flu season ahead by joining us to make a huge batch of Fire Cider!

We will be using herbs and vegetables from our farmstead gardens to a huge batch of Fire Cider. Participants will have lots of options for customizing their own Fire Cider with spices, herbs and medicinal mushrooms of their choice.

What is Fire Cider?

Fire Cider is a delicious potent healthful medicinal vinegar that is sipped as a digestif or added to water, soup stock or salad dressings.

It is used to help ward off colds and flu, and promote digestive health.

It is made by infusing spices, herbs and "fiery" vegetables (typically hot peppers, onions, garlic, horseradish, ginger, etc) in raw apple cider vinegar and honey.

Using simple, fresh, seasonal vegetables and herbs from our farm gardens we will make a big batch of Fire Cider together. You will have the opportunity to customize your Fire Cider by adding your own choice of extra spices, herbs, berries and medicinal mushrooms.

What to bring along:

  • apron
  • kitchen gloves (optional, for handling hot peppers, garlic, turmeric, horseradish)
  • knife & cutting board
  • two x litre mason jars

Pay by donation! Includes all instructions, recipes, hand-out notes, and ingredients.

Take home 2 litres of Fire Cider!

Extra ingredients will be available for purchase if you want to make more at home!

Allergies: Please notify Karin in advance if you have any concerns about allergies. This is a nut-free, gluten-free and vegan-friendly workshop.

Cancellation policy: If we need to cancel the workshop due to low registration or weather conditions we will give 48 hours notice and a full refund. If participants need to cancel please give 48 hours notice for full refund. Thank you!

We are grateful for all those who have saved seeds, tended land, and passed on plant knowledge before us. We live on Treaty 1 territory, traditional territory of the Anishanaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the National Homeland of the Red River Metis.
As a small act of reparation a portion of our farm proceeds is donated to Indigenous-led food security programs in Manitoba.

For all Farm Store orders you will receive an email with specific pick-up / delivery details.
