Farm School: Build a Hugelkultur Garden Bed - July 12 (Date to be confirmed)
Build a Hugelkultur Garden Bed
at Swallowtail Farmstead
Sat July 12, 10 am -12 noon (DATE TO BE CONFIRMED)
Workshop facilitator: Maren Kliewer
Join us for a hands-on workshop to learn about creating ultra-productive Hugelkultur Garden Beds, the ultimate raised bed garden for your backyard or farm.
In this workshop we will talk about the many benefits of making Hugel beds: water conservation, soil building, affordability, and increased yields. There are many ways a Hugel bed can be designed, depending on materials and space available. Maren will describe the various layers that are typically used, tell us about the Hugel bed gardens she has created in her backyard in Winnipeg and what she grows in them.
During this workshop we will work together using simple materials on hand (e.g. logs, sticks, leaves, straw, compost, manure etc) to build a new Hugel bed here at Swallowtail Farmstead. Participants will come away with all the knowledge and experience needed to build a Hugelbed at home.
Dress for the weather, with gardening clothes and sun hats, ready for getting your hands in the dirt.
Cancellation policy: If we need to cancel the workshop due to low registration or weather conditions we will reschedule or offer full refund. If participants need to cancel please give 48 hours notice for full refund. Thank you!
