WILLOW BASKET WEAVING RETREAT

at Swallowtail Farmstead

Saturday May 10, from 10 am-4 pm

Join us for our first time offering a full day, small-group weaving retreat here at Swallowtail Farmstead!

Facilitator: Jodi Hildebrand, artist and basket maker from Winnipeg

Many people have expressed interest in a willow basket weaving retreat! For this first session we are only able to take 4-5 people for this first session. We want to make sure each participant is fully supported throughout the day.

We are sorry we won't be able to accept everyone who is interested.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE WEAVING RETREAT:

  • beginner-friendly willow basket weaving workshop
  • a full day of instruction, including learning about ethical willow harvesting, preparing willow, tools needed, and basic weaving techniques for simple baskets, borders and handles
  • all materials provided that are needed to make your very own small traditional berry picking basket
  • organic farm-grown lunch, healthy snacks throughout the day
  • farm-grown herbal tea & organic coffee bar all day
  • short stretch breaks where you can choose to wander on our forest trail by the river, or bring a journal for sketching/writing, or just stretch out on a blanket in the sun
  • dress for the weather, we will be spending the day outside (however, if weather is very cold/rainy we will be weaving "indoors" in our rustic quonset)
  • supportive small-group learning community where all are welcome
  • all workshop notes and resource materials
  • take home your own handmade berry basket!

ONCE SOLD OUT WE CAN ADD YOUR NAME TO OUR WAITING LIST.

Please contact Karin to be added to the waiting list for future Willow Workshops at: hello(at)swallowtailfarmstead.ca

We are grateful for all those who have saved seeds, tended land, and passed on plant knowledge before us. We live on Treaty 1 territory, traditional territory of the Anishanaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the National Homeland of the Red River Metis.
As a small act of reparation a portion of our farm proceeds is donated to Indigenous-led food security programs in Manitoba.

For all Farm Store orders you will receive an email with specific pick-up / delivery details.
