Farm School: Grow a Medicinal Herbal Tea Garden - Sat, June 21
Grow a Medicinal Herbal Tea Garden
Sat, June 21 from 10 am-12 noon
At Swallowtail Farmstead we enjoy getting the best out of our herbs through a simple delicious cup of healing tea straight from the garden. We will tour through the herb garden we have been developing here, and enjoy some tasting/smelling and observation of the plants.
Learn about 10 of our favourite easy-to-grow medicinal herbal tea plants, that you will meet in our gardens. We'll talk about:
- the best growing conditions for each plant
- which of these plants are annual/perennials/biennials
- propagation techniques (growing from seeds/cuttings/divisions)
- how to tend, harvest and dry these herbs
- medicinal actions of each plant
- benefits of using herbs as a tea (instead of tincture etc)
- when and how often to use them as tea (and any cautions/interactions)
During this class we will also take some time to each sketch our dream herbal tea gardens, mapping out what plants you might like to include in your own backyard tea garden. Please bring along your own mug, blanket to sit on, plus sketch book/paper and sketching supplies. Other resources will be supplied.
Tea tasting is a big part of this day, and participants will each take home several herb seedlings/cuttings to get your herbal tea garden started!
This is an outdoor class. Please dress for the weather (and we may reschedule in case of inclement weather).
