Borage (Borago officinalis)

About:

Also known as star flower, bee bush, bee bread. It is a favourite in the garden for many types of bees, including honey bees, bumble bees, and small native bees. Borage is an annual, but will self-seed readily in your garden.

Sun/Soil

Grows best in sunny conditions, with well-drained soil (but will grow in any soil condition as long as there is sun).

Culinary Uses

There are many culinary uses for borage. The flowers, leaves and stems of borage are all edible. Flowers are used for making drinks, cocktails, syrups, jellies, added to salads, and garnishes for yogurt or desserts. Young leaves can be chopped into salads, soups, stocks and stews.

Medicinal Uses

Traditionally borage flowers and leaves were used for fevers, cough and depression. It is a nervine, which helps with exhaustion and low spirits. The oil from borage seeds has been used to help with inflammation.

Organically grown, with certified organic seeds and organic soil. Comes in a compostable pot.

We are grateful for all those who have saved seeds, tended land, and passed on plant knowledge before us. We live on Treaty 1 territory, traditional territory of the Anishanaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the National Homeland of the Red River Metis.
As a small act of reparation a portion of our farm proceeds is donated to Indigenous-led food security programs in Manitoba.

For all Farm Store orders you will receive an email with specific pick-up / delivery details.
